Method and Program

The founder of Runawasi, who created the material and developed the method, is a linguist. He studied linguistics and publicistics in Zurich, Switzerland, where he taught Spanish and Quechua in different language schools during 10 years. We teach utilizing the communicative method, which we have been developing and putting into practice for more than 30 years at Runawasi. This method allows us to use grammar lessons, dialogs, lectures, exercises, conversations, pictures – didactic or artistic -, radio, television and other resources to make communication possible from the moment a student enters his or her first class. With this method the classes are direct, active, intense and completely participatory.

We offer 4 levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced and superior. Our courses and material is adapted to the interests of the student. Thus, from an intermediate or advanced level on, topics of the student’s choice can be included.

An initial evaluation of the student’s level takes place during the first meeting in a conversation on different topics while driving to the homestay family. During the next 2 days of classes, a definitive evaluation is made, to which we adjust the teaching materials.

There also is an orientation, partly upon arrival at the homestay and on the first day of class, which includes the school facilities, homestay, language program, cultural info, do's & dont's, maps of Cochabamba and the neighborhood, bus routes and schedule into the city, list of excursions, and places of interest. This conversation is conducted in English, or in a common language to the participants.
